Single-cylinder Robinson-type hot air engine, made by L. Gardner & Sons Ltd, Manchester, c.1900. Fuel type gas, speed 170 rpm, power output ¼ horsepower.
Hot air engines had many uses, from driving light machine tools to church organ bellows. They were very quiet and did not need much energy to make them work.
