Universal facing, boring, drilling and milling machine made by George Richards & Co. Ltd, Broadheath.

Richards' Universal machine was basically a boring machine, but it was able to carry out other complementary operations like drilling and milling. It was built in Manchester by the engineering company George Richards & Co. Ltd. Richards’ machine was designed to reduce the amount of time the operator needed to set up the job. Having set the machine up, it was possible for the operator to complete the job using one single setting. Forty-eight different speed settings were available to the operator.
