Brass plate demonstrating the technique of hand engraving

Half complete engraving of the coat of arms of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers on a polished brass sheet.

To demonstrate the work that can be done by a skilled hand-engraver using only a sharpened steel ‘graver’, Angus McFadyen drew the Clockmakers’ Company arms on a brass plate and engraved half of it for display purposes. He left the curl of brass on the last cut, to show how a perfectly sharpened graver peels away the metal.
