Daily Herald photograph titled 'Ranee with her bootees on'. Caption on back reads: A sad complaint for man and beast is sore feet. With Ranee, Indian riding elephnt of the London Zoo, it came from tender pads. She felt the "miseries" when out giving children rides. Then the keepers found the solution: a pair of outsize bootees (foot protectors, for those who like the proper terminology). Now Ranee gives rides to the kids and feels none the worse for it. Picture shows: Ranee, with her leather bootees on, is ready to take children for rides at the London Zoo. Head Keeper Buck Jones looks on.'
