Guarding Christmas trees

Security precautions are being taken by the Forestry Commission in the immediate pre-Christmas period to guard against theft of Christmas trees from their 500 or so forests which are distributed throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Commission employees are partrolling with dogs and insome Commission areas walkie-talkie sets, usually employed for fire protection purposes, are being used to ensure quick communication, close liaison is maintained with local police.

Photo shows: Forester in charge, Mr Jack Davies, equipped with a walkie-talkie set, keeps watch with his alsation guard dog "Old Nick" at Lyminge, bout 8 miles from Ashford, Kent. The number of Christmas trees produced at Lyminge this year will be of the order of 3000.
