A contact sheet of photographs taken of film makers and animators John Halas and Joy Batchelor. Taken by Smith for The Sun newspaper, 26 November 1964.

Founded in 1940, Halas & Batchelor Cartoons was the largest and most influential animation studio in Western Europe for over 50 years. In that time, they made over 2,000 films and earned an international reputation for fine animation. They made approximately 70 films for the Ministry of Information, the War Office, and the Admiralty over the course of World War II; most of these were shorts intended to improve morale or spur on increased contributions to the war effort, although they are possibly best known for their feature length animated version of Animal Farm made in 1954.
