Georg Simon Ohm was a German mathematician and physicist. In 1826 he first published an electrical law, now famously known as Ohm's law. The law is a formula used to calculate the relationship between what we now call voltage, current and resistance in an electrical circuit, though Ohm and his contemporaries were still developing language to describe electrical effects. In 1827 Ohm published a book length mathematical work, The Galvanic Circuit Investigated Mathematically, sharing his new law. However, it was not widely read and Ohm received little recognition for his law until he was awarded the Copley Medal by the Royal Society in 1841.
