1896 - the Sumner and Spurrier families found The Lancashire Steam Motor Company.

1907 - renamed Leyland Motors.

1914 - the company incorporated at Leyland Motors Limited. Vehicle manufacturer of lorries and buses, though also produced cars and the Cromwell and Centurian tanks; after the second world war Leyland aquired a number of different companies, including Albion Motors, Standard Triumph and Rover Cars; Donald Stokes took over as head of the company in 1964 and in 1968 it merged with British Motor Holdings (BMH) to form the British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC).
