Illuminated address to Edward Fletcher, Esquire, Engineering Superintendent at Greenfield Works from workmen in the locomotive and the several other departments of the Northern Division of the North Eastern Railway Company in appreciation of the way he "always acted and especially in the reception of deputations in reference to the Nine Hours and other movements", the whole is in decorative borders with the address in the centre surrounded by watercolour illustrations, at centre top roundel with head and shoulders portrait (Edward Fletcher?), below exterior view of Newcastle Central Station, below the address the river and High Level Bridge with train crossing, centre bottom in heraldic style - the shield of Newcastle and the shield of Gateshead held by seated Virgin figure, left hand side in roundels from the top; an early 2-4-0 locomotive of the period, Greenfield House, the interior of Newcastle Central Station, interior of roundhouse with locomotives, a draughtsman studying a drawing: right hand side in roundels from the top, a longboiler 0-6-0 saddle-tank locomotive, Greenfield Works, Grey Street Bridge with engine passing, The Riverside, a metalworker with hammer: in miniature roundels around the address, clockwise from top centre; The arms of North Eastern Railway, profile of George Stephenson, an early steam vehicle, Trevithick's locomotive, Rocket, a stationary steam engine, Hetton locomotive, a very early NER locomotive, Gugnot's steam carriage, profile of Watt.
