Includes diagrams for a ‘heat of absorption detector’ and ‘gas tank sensor’, interspersed with some more playful ideas such as a ‘Dalek destroyer’. The notebook is a narrow spiral bound notebook; modern paper; ballpoint pen ink and pencil .

LNER notebook containing manuscript details, with a running total, of every payment Stanley Rose received, from the day he started work with the LNER until he retired in 1973. It then continues with his occupational and state pensions. Various notes refer to increases and decreases agreed by the Union, payments witheld during the General Strike etc. Also recorded is the payment of double wages on VJ Day and 1 1/2 times wages on the following day.

Notebook, paper with buckram-covered card covers, Notebook of R.M. Fishenden, 10 June 1938 to 2 Sep. 1947. Gives timing details of various journeys long with details of the locomotive and narrative of any unusual events. Journeys include the Golden Arrow, the Lakes Express, the Coronation Scot, the Bournemouth Limited, Bournemouth Belle, various suburban journeys in London and Cambridgeshire, and trips on the SNCF and Belgian Railways. Includes comments critical of the war timetables introduced in 1939, but there are no journeys recorded between 1942 and 1947(possibly because Mr. Fishenden was evacuated?).

Notebook, paper with card covers, Driver's notebook of Percy Swinson of Colwick Shed, entries made 1930s to 1948. Contains manuscript entries of timings and mileages of various stations from Colwick and over various other LNER routes, lists of stations and boxes on various routes, extracts from rulebooks including the 1942 appendix, signal diagrams, notes on injectors, tractive effort, list of key dates in WWII, etc. Driver Swinson apparently prepared several such notebooks and passed them to other drivers at Colwick shed. This example passed to his son, W. Swinson, a fitter at Colwick, who made some minor additions.

Notebook of Cyril A. Harrison, First World War overseas ambulance train / hospital train number 16. Written by Harrison during his service as a Medical Orderly (M.O.) serving number 16 ambulance train 14 August 1915 - 30 Jan 1919. Harrison was a member of the Friends Ambulance Unit (FAU). The FAU were conscientious objectors (C.O.) who staffed entire ambulance trains (as well as carrying out other medical non combat duties) during the World War One (WW1). The notebook includes tables containing names of FAU staff who served on the ambulance train under headings 'French B' and 'English', possibly a rota system for train work; religious quotations and notes regarding peace; medical notes e.g. 'notes on the blood'; a number of pages listing French Language practice, presumably French was being learnt for use during ambulance train service.

[Ms. notebook of Timothy Hackworth, 1827 Sept-1828 Sept. Contains notes of happenings on the Stockton and Darlington Railway in its early days. It records that the Royal George locomotive (the only one with a name at that time) started work on 29 Nov 1827 and broke down on 13 Dec. Also that No.1 locomotive (afterwards known as Locomotion) exploded at Aycliffe Lane while taking in water on 1 Jul 1828, killing its driver, John Cree. Inside cover bears name 'James Dixon, Darlington'. Bears some later notes, post Hackworth's death, by subsequent owner]

[c.30 pages comprise preliminary material copied from contemporary technical sources. Subsequent details of actual comparative experiments indicate that they were conducted at Nobel's explosives factory near Glasgow in connection with a dispute over a patent specification for smokeless powder. [Other pages bear copy letters of Ballantyne's widow to her solicitors etc. in 1956-7]
