[Record book of Mr Brown, shipwright or mechanician(?) at Portsmouth Dock Yard, containing tables re measurements of, and fittings for, ship types, and schemes of 'prices for Boat-Builders Work'. 1 vol., 1839-1840. Contains numerous tables, for estimating the weights and quantities of provisions, water etc.; of types of casks and tanks; re weight of articles in the hull of each class of ship; of the number of yards of canvas in the sails and the weight of sails, cables and anchors; of weight of boats; of rate per ton of labour on all classes of ships; of rates, with their complements of men and number of guns; schem of prices for mast-making, etc. Also copy letters, 1839 Oct-Nov, of T Bouvire, Admiral C E Fleming, Commander-in-Chief, Portsmouth, and Capt Sir Thomas Hastings, of the gunnery ship HMS Excellent, who was Captain Superintendent of the Royal Naval College. The volume contains numerous line and wash drawings of ships' fittings, particularly of the Queen]
