Hand-cranked invalid tricycle, by R.A. Harding, English, 1970-1975 and cover to protect passenger

Somerset-based company R. A. Harding manufactured this roadworthy invalid tricycle. It is an ingenious invention. It offered independence and exercise to those with reduced mobility through injury or illness. The tricycle is a robust all-weather vehicle. It is powered by turning the white handles clockwise. This drives the chain attached to the front wheel like a bicycle. A central unit also attached to the front wheel controls the steering. The tricycle has a hand-operated brake. This is similar to a standard bicycle. A waterproof leather covering attached to the sides of the tricycle keeps the ‘rider’ warm and dry.
