Painting, gouache (?) on canvas, Boston, Lincolnshire, The Pilgrim Fathers, by Lance Cattermole, 1955. Depicts the religious dissenting Pilgrim Fathers on the deck of a ship in front of the Guildhall in Boston Lincolnshire. One, dressed in a red cloak, holds a telescope while a colleague points excitedly ahead and other men climb in the rigging and wave. The scene is intended to represent the departure of the Pilgrim Fathers for the Netherlands in 1608, after their imprisonment in the Guildhall for attempting to emigrate illegally. Signed by the artist at bottom left. Framed and glazed, glass. Original artwork for British Railways (Eastern Region) poster.
