Model, scale 1:10, Voisin Aeroplane designed by Gabriel Voisin (1880-1973), made by Papault and Rouelle

Model of Voisin Aeroplane scale 1:10. By 1908 the Voisin biplane was standardised in the form seen in this model. Despite being unmanoeuvrable in any true sense, it was deemed the first viable European aeroplane.

In 1908 a Voisin biplane built by Gabriel and Charles Voisin flew the first 1 kilometre circuit in Europe. The pilot, Henri Farman, was a former racing driver and had purchased the Voisin in 1907, gradually modifying it and working up the performance.

The Voisin had no control in roll. However, Farman later fitted effective ailerons after seeing Wilbur Wright fly and developed one of the most successful biplanes in Europe.
