Model of Supermarine Rolls Royce Seaplane S.6, scale 1:20.

This is a model of a Rolls Royce Supermarine S6 seaplane. It was the brainchild of Reginald Mitchell and one of the most successful designs of its time. It outclassed the opposition at the famous Schneider Trophy races in 1929, following on the triumph of its predecessor, the S5, two years earlier. In 1931, a modified S6 won the trophy outright. With its Rolls-Royce R engine and its superb design, the S6 proved the perfect basis for the most celebrated British fighter plane of all time - the Spitfire. This 1:20 model was presented to the Science Museum by the makers.
