W.1 Jet Propulsion Whittle Engine.
The RAF cadet officer Frank Whittle came up with the idea for the jet engine in the late 1920s. This was one of his early engines, the W1, which was used in Britain's first jet-powered aeroplane the Gloster-Whittle E.28/39.
