Rolls-Royce sectioned 'Dart' turboprop aero engine. Four Dart engines were used to power the first turboprop airliner to go into service, the Vickers Viscount in 1953. Turboprop engines were pioneered in Britain, and consist of a gas turbine driving a propeller, the thrust of which is augmented by the jet exhaust.
