Snuff box, silver, lid engraved with illustration of Locomotion No 1and text 'S & D R', '1825', 'Mr R L English', made by George Unite & Sons, Birmingham, 1874, probably produced for the 50th anniversary of the Stockton & Darlington Railway. With engine turned decoration. Overall: 12 mm x 78 mm x 38 mm.

Commemorative snuff box of Locomotion No 1

Two seals mounted on ivory handles. The first seal is made of cornelian and set in a silver gilt mount. The second is cut in silver. Also, a cotton bag in which they would have been stored. In the same inventory listing is an armorial clasp from which Sir David Salomons’ shrieval chain was suspended.
