Board of Directors' minute books

Company records of Beyer, Peacock & Co. Ltd

The minute books relate to meetings of the Board of Directors. Between 1863 and 1902 no minute books were kept. When the company was established, minutes were held by the three partners. With the registration of Beyer, Peacock & Co as a public limited company in 1902 the meetings became those of the Board of Directors. Meetings were usually held once a month. The minutes state the location of the meeting, who was present and are signed by the chairman. The minutes of the meetings of the partners were signed by all three partners. The meetings were the forum for various matters to be raised and discussed such as the company accounts, orders and enquiries and details of appointments made. Some of the minute books are handwritten and some typed.
