London Midland & Scottish Railway Sleeping Car

Railway carriage, London Midland & Scottish Railway, 3rd class sleeping car No 14241, built Derby, 1928. Comprises seven seating compartments with two fold out beds each, two toilets and two washrooms.

This was one of the earliest third-class sleeping carriages to be built in the UK. It was used for journeys between London and Scotland. Sleeping cars were available to first-class passengers from 1873, but by 1928 third-class passengers could also enjoy a berth (bed) on board.
