British Railways 1st class Mark 1 carriage mock-up built for exhibition at the Festival of Britain in 1951. This carriage section was used to publicise new standard carriages introduced by the recently nationalised British Railways. It is painted in the crimson and cream livery colloquially known as 'blood and custard'. The seats are upholstered in a leaf pattern moquette, stuffed with horsehair. About 9,000 Mark 1 carriages were built and they remained in use on British Railways into the 1990s.
