16mm original film, colour footage edited with splices, descriptive captions and explanatory drawings. 500 feet on 800 feet plastic canister (approximately 14 minutes). Part 2 according to opening caption.
ARP unit, GSO unit and DE unit are featured, also explanatory drawing, process and safety measures before work starts, how the protective gear is put on, the GSO on site before ARP team, then the repairing train arriving on site, and the units are separated and set at a safe distant from the contaminated area. Captions: 1. Part II - Repairing the damage. 2. The District Engineer (D.E) and Area Technical Assistant of the Signal & Telegraph Department (A.T.A), with the GAS Safety Officer (G.S.O), approach the site to view the extent of the damage. 3. It is decided that the Special Repair Train is necessary. 4. During the journey the first working section change into protective clothing 5. Soon after leaving the depot the Storekeeper issues combinations, socks, and special suits to the Permanent Way men and then to the S&T men in an adjoining vehicle. 6. Towards the end of the journey the men, assisted by dressers, put on oilskins and gumboots. 7. As the train approaches the site the dressing is completed by the addition of respirators and hoods. 8. The G.S.O determines and indicates the liquid and vapour danger areas. 9. He lights a smoky fire to warn him of any change of wind direction during the day. 10. The Repair Train arrives and is pushed up close to the crater. 11. The A.R.P unit is uncoupled from the ballast train and drawn clear of the danger zone
