16mm film, original master ‘Air Raid Precaution, repairing permanent way’

16mm original film, colour footage edited with splices, descriptive captions and explanatory drawings. 400 feet on 800 feet plastic canister (approximately 12 minutes).

Beginning of intervention for the Permanent way team, going on their way to the site dressed with protective equipment, meeting GSO and DE, getting their tools, while danger gas signs and bleach tray are placed around the contaminated area, followed by S&T men after 15 minutes, and also Utility team preparing tools outside the danger zone; details on respirators and awning used by men to undress in the eventuality of wet weather. Captions: 1. As they leave the A.R.P Unit the first Permanent Way section hand in their civilian boots for placing in the racks provided. 2. The D.E and G.S.O meet the first section. 3. The G.S.O supervises the placing of the danger boards, indicating the limit of the vapour danger zone and the extent of the liquid contamination. 4. The Warden places the bleach tray on the edge of the liquid danger zone. 5. Before entering the contaminated area the first section unloads tools and materials estimated to be required for the repairs. 6. 15 minutes after the first Permanent Way section the first S&T section leaves the A.R.P Unit by the door nearest their travelling vehicle. 7. They hand in their civilian boots to be stored in the boot racks. 8. They proceed to the site, unloading tools and materials on the way. 9. During the whole of this time the Utility section is unloading and placing in position the equipment carried on the train. 10. The covers to the respirator racks are required only in wet weather or hot sunshine. 11. An awning, under which the men can undress in wet weather, is provided for attachment to the A.R.P Unit
