16mm film, original master ‘Air Raid Precaution, repairing permanent way and miscellaneous’

16mm original film, colour footage edited with splices, different parts in reel, with and without captions, possibly different pieces of films assembled on one reel and separated by green leader. May include offcuts and duplicate footage of other ARP film reels. 600 feet on 800 feet plastic canister (approximately 17 minutes).

Beginning and end of break signalled by the Timekeeper. Procedures followed when workers from the contaminated go on a break (they are relieved every 30 minutes), with the help of warden and dressers, and the other workers (S&T) take they break 15 minutes after the others to spread the work of the dressers. Miscellaneous footage after GREEN LEADER. Captions: 1. After each 30 minutes, at a signal from the Timekeeper, the section at work is relieved by the one then resting. 2. It is important always to place the tools against the tool horse, when not in use, in order to avoid unnecessary contamination of the handles. 3. The Warden sees that all men pass through the bleach tray on leaving the contaminated area. 4. The dressers thoroughly rub anti-gas ointment No.2 into their hands before attending to men from the contaminated area. 5. Before going to the rest hut the men have their hoods and respirators removed by the dressers. 6. The respirators are wiped out and re-anti-dimmed. 7. Work still goes on at the site. 8. The S&T sections change shifts 15 minutes after the Permanent Way sections in order to spread the work of the dressers. 9. The Timekeeper calls the men to re-dress for another shift. GREEN LEADER.
