Photograph album with black lacquer covers. Front cover is ornamented with large figure of an eagle in mother of pearl, on branch made of none with mother of pearl flowers and two mother of pearl small beads. All pages and cover interiors are covered with hand painted silk showing Japanese scenery and flowers.

Covers and spine with elaborately carved sandlewood panels with foliage, birds, rabbits etc. Surrounded by ivory and metal very fine mosaic inlay. Ivory spine endplate; 19 double sided aperture pages with two pictures per page. No photographs inside.

Family engaged in many leisure pursuits including sports, leisure cruising (aboard 'Walmer Castle'), horse riding, engaging in seaside activities such as watching Punch and Judy, paddling and riding donkeys, charabanc outings and playing croquet. Glazed oval apertures for a cabinet picture and two carte de visite. 13 pages, cut for cabinet photographs, 2 for cartes and 1 for small cartes. Some pages are printed with a flower motif in colour. Extension at the top of the back cover carries a clock in a brass mount. 'Stopper' covering the back of the movement marked 'By Royal Letters Patent' with the royal arms. Supporting foot missing and repaired.

One of seven albums of photographs assembled by John Downes Rochfort chronicling his travels in North America, Europe and Africa between 1867 and 1883. This album is entitled 'Algiers Egypt &c 1882-3' and is a curious mixture of photographs of North African tourist subjects and views of Egyptian battlefields.

Album of 45 black & white photographs titled "Victoria Station - Photographs of Premises let to separate tenants numbered to correspond with the Schedule and Plan of such premises." Photographs taken by the Valuation Office for the preparation of the draft valuation roll for the Southern Railway, circa 1936. The photographs show shops, kiosks, newsstands, bus stops, display cases, taxi ranks, advertisments etc. within and adjoining Victoria Station.

Contains 20 black & white photographs of London Electrified Lines car repair depot at Stonebridge, Euston-Watford Electrification Croxley Green carriage shed and Stonebridge Park power station, Euston-Watford 1927 Midland Carriage & Wagon Co. stock (including interiors), Euston-Watford Oerlikon stock, first electric train into Richmond Station on 4 June 1916, Manchester-South Junction-Altrincham 1933 stock, and a collision on the London Electrified Lines on 1 January 1934. The majority of the photographs have their negative numbers noted. Album numbered 2. 8.2283 x 11.2205 in.
