This series comprises two drawings and an accompanying loose leaf manuscript notebook. The notebook is formed out of six folio sized sheets folded to form a book. It includes rough diagrams, sketches and lists of axes, screws and pulleys relating to Babbage's universal machine tool.

The series is arranged alpha numerically. Although the pages of the notebook are numbered consecutively from 1-18, this does not reflect the true order of the content, which is written horizontally across the two pages which form each sheet, for example pages 1 and 18, 2 and 16 and so on.
