Notes in red ink were added to the title, as follows: 'Addition and subtraction are referred to in notation dated 9 August 1836. The multiplication by stepping without table is to be done in store. Division by powers of ten refers to stepping done in store. Multiplication with reserved table cannot be done because table is now stepped.'
This notation includes a related sheet described as 'rotary sectors for barrels', dated July 1835 and originally numbered by Babbage as 52x.
