Photograph of Illustration of the Gilded Conical Cast Iron Monument

A photograph of an illustration of the proposed reform column design by Richard Trevithick with a note on the reverse: ‘section of the proposed reform pillar showing steam engine hoist for taking persons to the top’. The illustration features a cross section and plan of the 'gilded conical cast iron monument'. The Reformation Act was passed in 1832, in which year Richard Trevithick started to plan the monument, although the photograph is of later date. The photograph of the illustration has presumably been used as a model for the drawing in the biography 'Life of Richard Trevithick', Vol. 2, 1872, p. 391.
