The original order of the archive is by format reflecting how the archive was originally stored. Arrangement of the archive is functional where records of the same functional activity have been grouped in categories based on organisational provenance, using organisational charts and records within the archive. The majority of the archive has been described at box level, apart from items of importance including drawing registers GEC/2/1, pattern record registers GEC/2/3, drawing lists GEC/2/4, order books GEC/3/1, weight books GEC/3/3 and films GEC/4/6. It has been arranged into four main sub-fonds reflecting the activities to which the records relate or the nature of the record: GEC/1 - Administration records GEC/2 - Drawing Office records GEC/3 - Engineering records GEC/4 - Sales and Commercial records
