GEC Traction Archive

The GEC Traction archive has been arranged into four main sub-fonds, Administration records (GEC/1), Drawing Office records (GEC/2), Engineering records (GEC/3) and Sales and Commercial records (GEC/4). Records include engineering drawings, technical and promotional archives, photographic and film material for the period 1846-1996.

Arrangement of the archive is functional where records of the same functional activity have been grouped in categories based on organisational provenance, using organisational charts and records within the archive. The majority of the archive has been described at box level, apart from items of importance including drawing registers GEC/2/1, pattern record registers GEC/2/3, drawing lists GEC/2/4, order books GEC/3/1, weight books GEC/3/3 and films GEC/4/6.
