My dear Sir,
The letter you alluded to is that which was addressed to Mr. Tilloch the Editor of Nicholson's Journal of Science now called the Philosophical Journal and published monthly _ I am persuaded you will find it is the small book which I sent you on the Safety Lamp.
I will endeavour to obtain a copy of the report on Coal Mine accidents _ Joseph Pease was

chairman and it must therefore be 12 or 15 years ago, if not more _ I have an impression that the Com'e sat in 1836
I am leaving town for a few days, but during my absence I will put some one in communication with Vignoles _ all that he has published on the works of the Liverpool and Manchester is I believe in a lecture of which I think I recollect an abstract appearing in the Engineer & Architects Journal.
The seniority of the Geordy is I believe clearly set forth in Mr Peases report.

Yours faithfully,
Robt Stephenson

S. Smiles Esq
