Dear Smiles

I send you a slip which was forwarded to me the other day by Mr George Elliot an eminent Coal miner in the neighbourhood _ it is evidently from a practical miner and I think worthy of record in my fathers life. Did I name in my last (if not I intended to do so) that it was Thomas

Richardson & not John that joined my father in the Factory with Edward Pease.
It was Thomas Richardson of the well Known firm of Richardson Overend Gurney & Co He was the man who first started the disc’t business as distinct from Banking in London.
I shall be here until Thursday morning when I leave on a cruise for the Caledonian Canal a work I have not seen since I was in Edinburgh in 1822 -
Yours faithfully
Robt Stephenson
