Dear Smiles
I really cannot correct your friends calculation without going into the matter again in detail
I put your note into Bidders hands who assisted me in the statistics alluded to, but I found his memory also fails about the Iron part of the question. The average distance travelled per passenger

is not 8 but 12 miles say at 11/2d a mile _
Your friend has taken the charge per mile far too high _ If he will call at George St some morning about 12 he will most likely find either Bidder or myself.
