Dear Smiles
I have just been looking thro' the batch of letters sent to me by Mr Jas. Sanders
Some of them are curious & interesting and thinking that some of them may interest you I forward them for your perusal There is a bundle of James's which characterise this man very clearly as a ready dashing writer
[page 2]
but no thinker on the practical part of the subject he had taken up _ It was the same with every thing he touched. He never succeeded in any thing & yet possessed a great deal of talking talent. His fluency of conversation I never heard equalled & so you would judge from his letters.
Yours faithfully
Robt Stephenson
