[Page 73]

or nearly so, Viz 526/6.26 = 84 lbs
The average Speed of the Engine was 8.05 Miles per Hour. with a Load of 28.5 Tons.
Viz 28.5 x 8.05 – 299 1/3 Tons carried one Mile with 84 lbs of Coke, which according to the Price of Coke the Goods carried to Manchester from Liverpool and visa versa will not cost 1d per Ton for the whole distance, you will perceive the Engine carried nearly 10 times its own Weight with the Adhesion of only two wheels which is certainly something extraordinary, though I am well aware it will out do it at all seasons of the year.
