Four handwritten sheets titled 73031 at Rugby, compiled, signed and dated by Fred Rich on 21 June 2004. The document comprises a tabulated summary of locomotive testing work undertaken by locomotive 73031 at the Rugby Locomotive Testing Station between 11 February and 24 October 1958.
Entries are arranged chronologically and record dates, run numbers, speed, cut-off, mileage and other test parameters associated with individual runs. The document appears to have been compiled retrospectively from earlier records, consolidating testing information originally generated during Rich's period at Rugby. In places, Rich notes gaps or missing information in the source material and records instances where data could not be recovered from his surviving records.
The final pages incorporate cumulative calculations and mileage summaries derived from the test-run data, including totals for locomotive mileage, test-plant mileage and numbers of runs undertaken.
Taken together, the document provides evidence of Rich's continuing engagement with railway engineering and locomotive testing long after the events recorded, illustrating his longstanding practice of revisiting, consolidating and analysing information drawn from earlier records.
