At the J T Board to day I introduced the minutes of the Conference at Brough yesterday and I am happy to have to report carefully considered them and the reasons in support which I offered. The Board concluded not to subscribe 25,000 to the project, but this number now made way for individuals who agreed to take that amt. in shares in the Company -- I shall be prepared to send the money in & will when required

as to the funding of rolling stock and working the line as the contractors stated in the minutes of yesterday. The Board will be prepared to do this when required under your [illegible] --- the Board feels that they ought to have had 5.5 pc from the first – but they do see incline that the difference of 5 pc should be the cause of disrupting you in obtaining of a Way whatever may be the eventual result of your efforts --- I am pleased that I have been the means of lending a little aid.
I have seen Mr Bouch C E who, now intends actively to prepare for Parliament and will be at Appleby in a few days.
I shall be pleased to hear of your encouraging progress and remain respectfully

I have written to the Gents. who were with me yesterday [underlined] & I omitted to say that I think the Gents who subscribe the 25,000 will expect that the working of the line be in the hands of the S&D Rly.
