Dear Mr. Pease
I received here this morning the telegram sent yesterday to my London home and I at once sent telegram to Mr. Macnay that I most gladly accept your very kind offer of a bed for the Evg of the 27th inst.
I hope to arrive in Darlington about -- or rather before noon but if any thing special is in the forenoon I would aim at an

earlier hour for I wish to be at, and to see as much as I can of Celebration so truly important & interesting.
In 1825 I surveyed & planned M & Carlisle Railway between Corbridge & Haydon Bridge on the same line which was made six years after & in 1823 I surveyed & laid out a proposed Colliery Railway near Newcastle so that I had

a hand in railway matters fifty years ago and although not present at the Opening of S & D Railway I took a lively interest in the subject and few can more thankfully rejoice in the glorious results of that peaceful revolution which has been -- is -- and doubtless will be -- the cause of more rapid progress and greater moral, mental

and commercial improvements than any other Engineering or Scientific operation -- It is very touching to me to receive such a mark of your kindness and it revives many pleasing recollections of kindnesses of your family and yourself which I appreciate more than words can express.
