Newcastle upon Tyne, 31 Decembr 1824
Present the undersigned
In consequence of the numerous engagements of Geo: Stephenson, it is concluded that He be relieved from that ostensible share of the Management of the said Concern during the ensuing year, which He has hitherto had, yet that the Engine Factory shall continue to receive every effort of his ingenuity & that of his Son, for which they can spare time, & it is now agreed that the Management be taken by Mr. Longridge at the rate of £200 per annum during the ensuing
On considering the circumstances of the existing Patent for Locomotive Engines, & the short duration, say 3 years ‘ere that Patent expires, that it is expedient to endeavour to have the same extended if it be practicable by Petition to Parliament, as Geo: Stephenson has stated to this Meeting, that He does not at present see any additions can be made to his former invention of such moment as to entitle him to sue for a New Patent: the care of this subject is committed to E. P.
