At a Meeting of the Partners interested in the Forth Street Engine Factory under the firm of Robt Stephenson & Co the 10th of 9 Mo. (Sept) 1840
Present Robt Stephenson & Edward Pease
On an inspection of the works and accounts of the establishment, the correspondence and orders on hand the same for [sic] were found in a satisfactory state - the orders on hand for Engines at the present time is 50 _
On a reference to the Bankers Book, it is concluded the balance desirable to rest in their hands should not be less than £1000 & as near that amount as can conveniently be, and when the amount is upwards of £1000 that it be recommended to E. J. Cook to continue to see if any discount can be obtained for prompt payment of the debts of this Compy.
It is concluded that should the amount in one Bankers hand admit of it at the close of the present month, the sum of £5000 be divided amongst the proprietors
