An extensive collection of glass plate negatives (c1897-c1926), photographic contact prints (c1863-c1926) and personal papers/ephemera (1860-c1926) created or owned by amateur photographer and brewer Edgar Tarry Adams (1852-1926). Some of the photographs were also taken by his children Francis Norris Adams, Isabel Mary Adams or Pauline Adams.
His photographs document the lives of wife Helen, plus his children Francis, Isabel, Pauline and Gordon Adams. As a keen boating enthusiast, the collection contains a vast number of glass negatives and photographs relating to rowing boats, sailing boats and ships, as well as images of village and city life, people, animals, buildings, landscapes and a small number of trains, animals and the military/navy.
Personal items comprise of blank postcards with images taken by Adams, cruising permits, certificates, correspondence, beer labels from brewery T F Adams & Sons and a book volume compiled by the Rev. W Q Warren about Edgar’s parents called ‘Some Reminiscences of Thomas Francis and Mary Adams and their Family of Halstead, Essex.’
