Unmounted photograpic prints of rowing boats, sailing boats and ships

A large collection of loose, unmounted photographic prints developed from glass plate negatives taken by Edgar Tarry Adams, or by his children Francis Norris Adams, Isabel Mary Adams or Pauline Adams.

Prints comprise mostly of undated, miscellaneous images of sailing boats, rowing boats and ships, including those in harbour, on rivers or out at sea. Includes images such as a ship with ‘'Wreck' written in white down the side, shipyards and docks, people sailing on yachts, men working near moored ships, children playing near water, people with boats at the beach, people on deck or below deck on ships, plus more.

Some images comprise of named vessels, such as the Japanese battleship ‘Shikishima’, ‘HMS Cornwallis’ and ‘HMS Impregnable’, ship building sheds, ship launches, Dover harbour (including the construction of the admiralty harbour) and Ventnor harbour in the Isle of Wight, plus more. Some of the images include people aboard the vessels.

A small amount of prints are annotated and/or dated by Edgar Tarry Adams but the majority would need to be matched up with the corresponding glass plate negative for context or dates
