Photographic prints of people, animals and street scenes
A large collection of loose, photographic prints (mounted and unmounted) developed from glass plate negatives taken by Edgar Tarry Adams, or by his children Francis Norris Adams, Isabel Mary Adams or Pauline Adams.
Prints comprise mostly of undated, miscellaneous images of people, street scenes and animals from the late 19th to early 20th Century, including Edgar Tarry Adams, Helen Adams and the Adams children. Includes images of busy streets, horse drawn carriages, people walking down a promenade or on the beach, groups of people posing for photographs on the street, people walking or riding bicycles, garden parties or people in other parts of the Adams’ home (The Cottage, Halstead, or The Bungalow, Deal), cats, a shooting party of ‘The Volunteers’, crowds of people at a train station, ice skating at Gosfield Lake, a cricket or croquet match, a group of men and women posing with their dogs, a man and woman sat on a bench (possibly in mourning dress), a parade, streets lined with people and hanging out of windows (possibly Edward VII coronation), an elephant procession, large crowds watching the May races (Cambridge), a pageant, a woman dressed as Elizabeth I at a pageant (possibly for May Day), the volunteer fire brigade, inside a classroom, a football match, women in the woods picking fruit, and more.
A small amount of prints are annotated and/or dated by Edgar Tarry Adams but the majority would need to be matched up with the corresponding glass plate negative for context or dates
