Monday, March 17, 1834
At Leicester examined the Locomotive Engines – found the deposit in the Boiler exceeding any thing in former experience – found it entirely sulphate of carbonate of Lime – met the Director reported unfavourably on the repairs made by the Hornby Co.

Tuesday 18
Left Leicester for Leeds
Arrived at Leeds in the Evening and proceeded forward to Newcastle by the [illegible] coach.

Wednesday 19
At Newcastle – went to the Factory and took tea at Mr. Stantons.

Thursday, March 20, 1834
Saw Mr. Adamson respecting Simpson – determined not to call upon Simpson. Adamson expressed an opinion favourable to Simpson but could not ask him to [illegible] as usual.

Friday 21
At the Factory, met Mr. Pease & Mr. Richardson discussed the [illegible] of abandoning the factory on a/c of not [illegible] as might be expected.

Saturday 22
At Newcastle saw Mr. Nicholas Wood but could not remain with him.

Sunday 23
St. John’s Church – NCastle.
