Monday, July 7, 1834
Left Birmingham for Coventry to lay the plans before the Contractors.

Tuesday 8
At Coventry – met Mr. Carter and settled various points in the Contract.

Wednesday 9
Left Coventry for Leicester saw Mr. Barkley and Mr. Ellis – examined Railway Depot and line to the Tunnel – found it in very poor condition.

Thursday, July 10, 1834
At Surbiton Colliery with Mr. Forster – went down the pit- never saw a pit in better order – workings clean regular and well arranged.

Friday 11
At Birmingham laid Corrected Estimate of viaduct over [illegible] St before the Committee – long one still approved.

Saturday 12
Left Birmingham for Weedon – saw Capt. Brown the Engineer he appeared decidedly favourable to the line passing in front of the Pavilion.


Sunday 13
At Hampstead all day.
