A photograph with a caption that reads: 'A 13ft long scale model of a carton board machine was presented to the Science Museum, South Kensington, by Reed Paper Group on 14th March. The finely detailed 1/32 scale model, representing the latest highly-instrumented machine at Reed Board Mills (Colthrop) Ltd, Thatcham, Berks, which in 24 hours can produce paper-board 110 inches wide and 160 miles long. This photograph shows hydrapulpers and refiners which prepare the pulp before it is fed onto the machine. The model was presented to the Director of the Museum, Dr D.H. Follett, by Mr H.G. Paul, a director of the Reed Paper Group. It was made by Basssett-Lowke Ltd, of Northampton in 17 months and involved 7,000 man hours.
