Handwritten letter from William John Tennant to Basil H. Joy, expressing sympathy at the death of Basil’s father, the engineer David Joy. Tennant refers to his long‑standing regard for David Joy since meeting him in 1888 and conveys warm condolences on behalf of himself and his wife. He notes that, since receiving the news, several junior members of the profession have spoken appreciatively of David Joy. A postscript adds that S. V. Cooke has also expressed his sorrow.
