Letter of condolence from R. R. Bevis to Mr Joy

Handwritten letter of condolence from R. R. Bevis, written on Hamptonne, Vyner Road, Birkenhead headed paper and addressed to “Mr Joy”, almost certainly Basil H. Joy, following the death of his father, the engineer David Joy. Bevis expresses his shock at reading the news in The Times and conveys his sympathy to Joy and his family. He notes that he had intended to write to David Joy the previous Sunday, postponing the letter in the hope of arranging an interview later in the week. Bevis reflects that Joy’s mind being active to the last must be a consolation, and recalls the keenness he showed in unravelling difficult problems.
