Letter from Kate Joy to Mr Koch
- part of archive:
- David Joy Archive
Four‑page handwritten letter from Kate Joy, 24 Inglewood Road, West Hampstead, to Mr Koch. The letter is dated “Nov 25”, with no year given; the date range supplied in the catalogue reflects the earliest and latest possible years based on external evidence. Joy writes that she is sending Engineering and other printed notices relating to the death of her husband, the engineer David Joy, and offers the block from which his portrait was reproduced. She notes that she has left in some of the letters that arrived at the same time, and asks that they be returned. Joy expresses interest in Koch’s “project” and reflects on her connection with Hampstead Parish Church, where two of her daughters were married; she records that one daughter, Kathleen Escombe, died fourteen months later and is buried near David Joy.
Note: The recipient may be Rev. Edward Hermann Alexander Koch, who was the author of a brief history of the Parish Church of St John at Hampstead published in 1928.
