Dear Sirs

I on the 20th ulto wrote to the Secretary of this company by direction of the Trustees of ,the Melksham Turnpike Road objecting to the Railway passing that Road on a L'level & requesting that the Road(shoul be carried over the
Railway by a Bridge at the usual inclination - not having received any reply to the letter the Trustees concluded that the Company declined to agree to their request, and they have in consequence been obliged to present a petition against the Measure & we have made the necessary arrangements for supporting the Petition by ………………………… & ……………. You have no doubt seen the Petition and know the ground of opposition & as we are at a loss to imagine
any grounds to justify the application of the Company & as we have no desire to put the Company to any unnecessary expense we think it proper (to prevent any misunderstanding) to write to you on the subject & request you to inf rm
us whether you will strike out the Melksham Road No 9 from your proposed lause & consent to build a Bridge as requir,ed. We should be obliged by your answer by return of post and remain Dear Sirs
